An all too common subliminal message in the dance world is that at age 18, you either have "made it" or you begin your retirement and start a more "realistic" path outside of being a dancer. Even worse, sometimes it can seem that unless you dance ballroom (which is a blast, btw), it's simply too late to start.
Thank goodness this is not reality.
And while many dancers do go on to have careers outside of dance and may no longer give as much time to their craft, this doesn't necessitate the title "ex-dancer" or mean that our training, progress, or active participation in the dance community must stop.
For the benefit of all, especially you, I hope it doesn't!
Here are some Instagram accounts to remind us just how much there is yet to learn, do, and enjoy, no matter your level or age:
1. Audrey @Audrey_riro
Audrey is a video creator that uses dance to propel her work and get her message across. She is so upbeat and fun. She takes the seriousness out of dance and just MOVES!
Watching her enjoy movement and share her style is guaranteed to bring a smile to your face. She is joyful, gorgeous, and so free! Audrey inspires the rest of us to share our personalities and let the world see the light dance can bring, for everyone!

2. Auti Kamal @autikamal
Auti is a dance teacher, video creator, and founder of Ti & Me Studio, a dance training app that is welcoming towards beginners. She promotes self-validation, kind self-talk and a strong work ethic. You'll find plenty of humor peppered in her content as well and we're all about it.

3. Katrena @diffdrumdance
Katrena is a dance wellness coach who focuses on body positivity and bringing emotional wellness to studios. She creates material and content geared towards inspiring teachers and studio owners. Teacher or not, her motivating and nurturing content applies to all.

4. LAJAMARTIN @_lajamartin
If you're looking for dancers who are unapologetic, Laja Field and Martin Durov are a breath of fresh air. This account is so energizing and freeing. The enriching movement and strength they embody is completely entrancing and will have you craving an open studio to play with your own style.

5. Ava Bernstine-Mitchell @avaflav1
Ava is a dancer, choreographer, teacher, mom and so much more. She is also director of The Flava Project and The Dance Room Podcast. She's a favorite at Playground LA and The Brea Space and her choreography is sure to leave you feeling powerful and full of confidence. Her page is a reflection of her just being her and all the amazing parts of life that make it full, dance prominently included.

6. Kendall @trainwithkendall
Kendall is a dance and fitness trainer who focuses on technique and injury prevention. She offers one-on-one sessions, programs and courses. However, you'll find TONS of helpful tips and motivation on her Instagram page. Injury prevention begins to feel even more important as we grow and our bodies change. Thanks to Kendall, we can stay diligent in the essentials.

I hope these accounts give you inspiration, added motivation and remind you that there is room for us all!
Enjoy the journey,
Taylor
